Beach Combing at MurriskClew Bay 1

Beach combing at Murrisk

Inspired by a visit to County Mayo, and having arrived home with a collection of beach combed treasures I set to work with new textures and colours. The changing moods of the sea and vibrant colours of the sea weed are very different to those of the Pennine moors.

Exploring the beaches with new ideas to think about, the ancient rock art, the Reek, Holy Mountain, with its annual pilgrimage, memories of the potato famine carved into the landscape and the horrors of the coffin ships leaving the port of Westport for North America resulted in this series of collages and tapestries.
