Walking Weaver

“I walk on the land to be woven into nature”

Hamish Fulton

My work is concerned with the way human beings relate to the natural world.  Spending time in the outdoors is an important part of my practice; a time to reflect to listen to feel to taste the countryside.  It is about slowing down and making a connection with natural cycles of the planet which I feel the modern world has lost.

I grew up in West Craven and for the past 30 years have lived in Holmfirth in the South Pennines.  I am grounded in the landscape of the Pennine Watershed; this landscape is an important influence on my work.

My inspiration often comes from journeys on foot, wandering through the countryside taking time to quietly note the changing weather, learning to respect its moods sun wind rain snow and observing those for whom these places are home.

I use craft techniques methods that have been handed down from generation to generation slow work with a rhythm, a meditation.  Incorporating found materials the making is a time for thought and experiment investigating the possibilities and limitations of techniques and the found treasures a challenge to adapt and innovate.
